Sadly, we have been informed of the death of Shujaat Rajput, a victim of COVID-19.
Shujaat was a popular club member during the 1980s, playing in the Men’s first team over a number of seasons, and will be well remembered by a few members from that time.
After finishing with hockey, he continued to play cricket with Hatfield Hyde (where the Club was based in the days before astroturf), and was still involved as their first team umpire.
We send our condolences to family, friends, and Hatfield Hyde.
In light of the Coronavirus threat, the WGCHC Committee have taken the decision to cancel the remaining matches, training sessions and social events planned over the next couple of months. This decision has been made with advice from England Hockey and of course following the guidelines set by the UK Government. Your health and well being is of the upmost importance to us.
If you’ve been inspired by the hockey World Cup on BT Sport and want to give it a go yourself with Welwyn hockey club, we’d love to hear from you! Send an email to communications@wgchockeyclub.co.uk and we’ll direct you to the most relevant person!
Playing hockey since 1921
