It may seem that the season hasn’t been over for long but we’re looking ahead to the start of the new season and are planning a club Funday on Sunday 6th September to kick off the season in style!
Starting with a Junior session and games at 10.30am until 12.30 (with prizes!), and followed by an Old and Bold tournament from 12.30-4pm (also with trophies!), it is a day for all ages and abilities, for all current members and to welcome new faces. There will be stalls selling hockey merchandise, food and drinks, as well as a tombola and raffle to help you enjoy the whole day.
For the Junior session, children will be split into three age groups- u10’s, u12’s and u14’s- and have a recap or introduction of skills before playing in a round robin tournament of mixed teams, either 5 or 7-a-side. Coaches and teammates will be looking out for team work for Player’s Player and overall winners.
The cost of this session is free to all children participating and everyone will leave with a memento of their day! You don’t have to book your place for this but if you want further details, please email funday@wgchockeyclub.co.uk
We are also looking for helpers to run this season- coaches, volunteers or parents- to help each age group or umpire matches. Please email youth.development@wgchockeyclub.co.uk if you are able to assist on the day.
For the Old and Bold session, we are hosting a 7-a-side, half pitch tournament, with teams battling it out for the inaugural Welwyn trophy. Teams consist of a mixed squad of 10, with 7 playing at one time- these must include at least 3 players who are women or under 17. Anyone over 13 years old is welcome to participate.
You can enter as an individual or submit a team which includes the range of players above. Individuals cost £1 or teams £10. Register your interest by emailing funday@wgchockeyclub.co.uk
We hope to see all members there and welcome you bringing along any new faces! Attached to this email is a poster which we would love for you to print out and put up at your place of work or community spaces, as well as a letter detailing help with raffle prizes or sponsorship of the day.
Thanks,
WGCHC FunDay team
