Summer Hockey 2010

Postby GarthyEgg » Wed Feb 03, 2010 12:37 pm

Hi Everybody!

We have been invited to take part in the Broxbourne Summer Leagues again this year. There are Ladies, Mixed and Men's leagues (probably at 1s/2s standard), so an opportunity for most club members, but there are a few who don't fit those criteria...

I have been assured that none of the matches will clash with any of England's World Cup matches, and as I will not personally have time to manage any of the teams this year it would be good to know if anyone is interested in taking over the reins.....

Please also let me know if you're interested in playing, and if there is enough interest then we can get teams booked in.

Cheers,
Garth

Hi Garth,  I'm interested, and happy to help with the organising.

I'm sure we will have enough interest so I would suggest getting our entries in.  We can discuss the details at the committee meeting next Wednesday

I will ask the 1s this weekend - I agree the mens is really just for the 1s and 2s standard with a few from the 3s as well - iam sure you will have enough for this - I have no interest in captaining the side  ;)  ... when does it all start Garth

I've spoken to Dave and Dossy and they will be arranging the mens and ladies respectively.
I have put in our entry for the mixed and have agreed to organise this so any interest, please let me know.
The standards have got much higher over the last couple of years and I believe we won't be entering Hitchin mixed this year so I'll try and make sure you all get games by mixing abilities to support each other whilst still putting out a team that won't get stuffed each week. :-)

If games are only for the 1st and 2nds, where does that leave other players?

Seems to be a little bit of confusion.... The initial comments about 1s and 2s was to help people guage what standard of opposition we will be facing, i.e. pretty good... I'm sure the various captains will aim to give everyone a fair shout of getting a game.

Terry - the subs don't come into the equation - we play at broxbourne for every game so nothing to do with the club - and we pay £5 a game to play. As Garth said it is to gauge the standard - we lost last night 4-1 and had a decent split of 1s and 2s (more 2s). We have lost to StAlbans something like 11-1 with 1s and 2s - so it is showing what level this league is. I am sure sometimes other players will be given a shot - but at the end of the day you dont want to get walloped every week.
