M2s versus Royston 2s ... Come On!!!
This was a game that no invidual desereved man of the match.... how can I say that when we won 0-3, well because everyone played well, and as a team won the game.
Royston were 4 points ahead of WGC as the game started and they showed why for the first 30 minutes when they basically camped in the WGC half. It was left to the defence of Dougie, Dave, Nick, Simon M & Simon W to stand firm and stop the endless attacks on goal. WGC struggled to clear the ball at 16s and it was looking pretty grim. On the odd occasion they did get through Rich in goal was their to mop up. The pressure lead to numerous short corners, which for the 2nd week Pete Mullens defended from the front.
However with minutes before half time WGC final cleared the ball out of defence with a quick ball from Simon M, to Pete, who hit it from just inside the WGC half at the goal to ease the pressure. The last defender standing on the half way line missed the ball and let James run it at the keeper. Using all the expertise gained from his time in goal, he slipped the ball into the goal right between the keepers leg! 0-1 .. a very unlightly scoreline.
Captain Pete Mullens changed the formation to 4-4-2 from 4-3-3 as we approached half time to hold the lead. WGC pressurised the home time at half time by quickly coming out to start the 2nd half while Royston discussed tactics, obviously they did not have time to finish!
The Royston team who were generally playing a fairly, started to get frustrated with their own play and started complaining to the umpires and were eventually given a warning that anymore verbal would lead to a card !
I now need to have dinner so wil be back a bit later to finish............ OK back now to the action.
WGC were much improved in the 2nd half and gaps in the Royston mid field started to open. A through ball through to Clarke just inside the Royston half just left the keeper to beat, but a Royston defender chased and innocently clipped the heals of Clarke who dramtically made the most of the situation. The umpire saw it very differently and accussed the defender of gabbing and gave a Penalty Flick and sent the player off. This obviously frustrated the Royston team and after a few words had thare captain sent off also ! Down to 9.
Jez strolled up and calmly slotted the ball in to bottom right corner (0-2).
WGC then started to panic, not sure why ... 2 goals up, 2 players more and Royston had a strong 5 minutes, this was ended by another WGC goal... This time a Champagne goal. It started at Left Back (Dave), with a relaxed pass to Clarke, who ran into the Royston half and passed to Jez on the far right of the D, who then unselfishly passed to Dougie to slip it into the open goal. (0-3).
This was all too much for Royston who lost another player to verbal near the end. Royston played competitvely and fairly but it was there verbal to the umpires that lost them the game. A lesson for all teams
A sound result for WGC.

Some slightly sloppy hockey at times especially from me but hard work and determination paid off.

Good result, the 3's were one of the few teams to beat this team last year in div 6SW, and that game too was because they started arguing about everything, mainly with each other, while we just got on with it.
I think we won 4-0
but that was at home
I think we won 4-0

The 3s were the only team to beat them last year.
The win on saturday was very similar to the win last year; Soak up the pressure and score on the break
An excellent effort from everyone!

Any idea why?
Some odd results happening near the bottom of the table.
Blueharts and Shefford and Sandy seem to be improving rather rapidly in their bids to avoid relegation!

Berko fielded an ineligible player.
Thinking about it Berko may have fielded the ineligible player against Ricky and as they didnt provide a team sheet against us there was no way to check.
Could be some tough last few games with Blueharts and Shefford probably still fighting to stay up

Roystons match report...
Unfortunately Royston suffering their worst home defeat in 2 years at the hands of WGC. Royston started brightly created many chances and dominating 95% of the first half. A breakaway goal, the only shot on target for the opposition in the first half allowed them to take a 1-0 lead into the break. Into the second half, WGC striker was tripped in the D and a penalty stroke was awarded with the Royston defender getting a yellow. It was a harsh decision. The opposition led 2-0. Further verbal backchat lead to 2 other players being sent off with yellows and with Royston's heads dropping they got a third goal.
